About Las Vegas

Las Vegas is in Nevada's Clark County, is the only major city in the American West founded in the 20th century. Originally a small railroad service center, it transformed into the nation's fastest-growing metropolis by the end of the century. Fueled by entrepreneurship, water access, a transportation network, and lenient state laws, the city, known as "Vegas," is famous for its vast casinos, luxurious hotels, and... dazzling entertainment that attracts global visitors.

Functioning as Nevada's economic hub and largest city, Las Vegas encompasses a metropolitan area housing over twice the population outside the city limits as within, making up roughly three-fourths of the state's overall population.

Beyond the iconic Strip lies a conventional Western city, drawing thousands of new residents each year. This growth has made Las Vegas one of the nation's wealthiest cities.

The region offers ample outdoor recreation opportunities, with attractions like Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Three state parks—Spring Mountain Ranch, Floyd Lamb, and Valley of Fire—are easily accessible, and skiing is available in the Spring Mountains during winter.
